Short version: OutQuest does not require an account. Goals, quests, progress, family profiles and rewards are stored locally. Optional Apple Health access is limited to reading step count. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
OutQuest is provided by Valdris Consulting (“Valdris”, “we”, “us” or “our”). This policy applies to the OutQuest app for iPhone and Apple Watch and the OutQuest pages on valdris.net.
Valdris is the controller of information it actually receives, such as a message you send to us or basic website access information. For privacy questions and data requests, email privacy@valdris.net.
2. Information used on your device
Depending on the features you use, OutQuest may process the following information locally:
- Your selected mode, life areas, goals, target dates, preferences and rest days.
- Daily, weekly and fun quests, including completion history, notes and other completion evidence you enter.
- XP, streaks, levels, earned badges and seasonal progress.
- Goal check-ins, measured values and the progress each quest contributes.
- Family Mode information, including child profile names, focus areas, goals, quests, approvals, points, rewards and redemption history.
- App settings such as reminders, sound, voice and music preferences.
This information is stored through Apple’s on-device storage technologies. OutQuest currently has no user accounts and no Valdris-operated cloud sync, so Valdris cannot remotely view or recover this information.
3. Optional device permissions
Apple Health
If you choose to connect Apple Health, OutQuest requests read-only access to step count. It uses today’s steps and a recent daily average to show progress and automatically complete eligible walking quests. OutQuest does not write health information and does not use HealthKit information for advertising or sell it.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, OutQuest schedules quest reminders, optional streak nudges and Family Mode approval alerts locally on your device. Your selected reminder time and quest information are not sent to a Valdris push-notification server.
Face ID or device authentication
OutQuest can ask iOS to authenticate an adult before protected Family Mode actions, resetting progress or deleting data. OutQuest receives only whether authentication succeeded; it does not receive or store your face, fingerprint or passcode.
Apple Watch
If you use the companion app, selected quests, progress and completions are transferred between your iPhone and paired Apple Watch using Apple’s Watch Connectivity framework. This is device-to-device synchronisation, not a Valdris cloud account.
You can deny or withdraw permissions in iOS Settings. Core manual quest features remain available, although the relevant connected feature may stop working.
4. Smart weekly planning
OutQuest includes a built-in planner. On supported devices where you have enabled Apple Intelligence, the app may also use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models to create additional weekly quest ideas from goal titles, goal context, the selected week, rest days and existing quest titles.
This generation runs through the system model on your device. OutQuest does not send those planning prompts to a Valdris AI server. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, the app falls back to its built-in planner.
6. Website visits and emails
The static OutQuest website does not use advertising trackers. Our hosting provider may process standard technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser information, requested URL, timestamps and security logs.
If you email support@valdris.net or privacy@valdris.net, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it to answer your request, investigate a problem, fulfil a privacy request and maintain the app.
Please do not send sensitive health details, detailed financial information or unnecessary information about a child by email.
7. Analytics, advertising and sale of data
OutQuest does not include third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking or Valdris-operated product analytics. We do not sell or rent personal information and do not use HealthKit or child-profile information for marketing or advertising.
8. Children and Family Mode
Family Mode is designed for an adult to create and manage child profiles on the adult’s or family’s device. Child profiles are not public, and OutQuest has no social feed, public leaderboard or location-sharing feature.
Adults should use only the minimum information needed to run the family’s quests. A first name or nickname is usually enough. The adult is responsible for supervising use, managing the device and deciding what information is exported or shared.
Because OutQuest has no child accounts or Valdris cloud service, Valdris does not intentionally collect child-profile information from the app. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us through email, contact privacy@valdris.net so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
9. Retention, deletion and security
On-device information remains until you remove it in OutQuest, use the app’s “Delete all data” control or uninstall the app. The deletion control removes local goals, quests, family profiles, rewards, settings and progress from that device. OutQuest support cannot restore deleted local data.
Support and privacy correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, keep an appropriate support record, protect our services and meet legal obligations. The exact period depends on the nature of the enquiry.
On-device data benefits from the security controls available on your Apple devices. We take reasonable measures to protect information we receive, but no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
10. Your data-protection rights
For personal information Valdris holds, UK data-protection law may give you rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, depending on the circumstances and lawful basis.
Most OutQuest data is stored only on your device and is not available to Valdris. You control that data through the app’s edit, export and deletion features. To make a request about information we do hold, email privacy@valdris.net.
You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
11. Service providers and international transfers
Website hosting and email delivery may involve service providers that process limited information on our behalf, including outside the UK. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards for those transfers. We use providers only for operating, securing and supporting OutQuest and its website.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when OutQuest’s features, permissions or data practices change. The latest version will remain available at this URL, with the date updated below.
